Gotcha. Very impressive to me how you make the lighting so soft and natural looking.

Thanks Meredith. These are all under a lamp. I'm working at odd hours (9 pm, 6 am, 2 pm, etc) so I need the light to be consistent.

All of these are simply beautiful. A wonderful series. I am curious about your lighting. It appears to be natural, not artificial (at least in this one, I'm not studying the earlier ones at the moment). Is that correct? I love to paint the still lifes with natural lighting, but when I do, I take long enough that the light changes, like with plein air. I'm wondering how you are handling the lighting. Thanks, Hank.

Hank,
Thanks so much for your response. I have only used the regular acrylics and that was in graduate school, many years ago (in studio, no outdoor). I have known of Marcia for a few years and really like her work. Will check for her tips. I did recently see a video of her using what looked like a plastic box with large deep wells filled with what looked like liquid paint. She and a few others who uses acrylics have renewed my interest. Also I have a large supply of Liquitex acrylics purchased on Ebay at a good price. I am looking forward to using the Golden Open paint. You have answer all my questions for the moment. ;0)
Thanks again for sharing your experiences using acrylic paint.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I'm not sure which one I like the best so far. This one is probably the tightest. I always tighten up with oils. I want to try a drying medium to see if I like them any better. Acrylics drying so quickly is something that I actually like.

Hi Hank. I agree will William Moore that this is the best of the series. Maybe the best of all. Simple and straightforward in composition but complex and rich in color. I wonder how much the oil paint had to do with this and how much I like it.. Maybe the stars just all alined for you that day and the medium wasn't a factor. Anyhow, wonderful painting.

I think I like this best of your recent flowers in the glass.

You, being a proponent of acrylic, I have a couple of questions. Do you use either a retarder or Open when painting? I like to mix back into mixtures on the palette, but with acrylic they dry quickly (especially outside) leaving a film that doesn't reconstitute to paint but trash. Does keeping the palette wet with spray bottle work for you? I also like preserving left over oil paint in the freezer to prevent waste. How do you deal with acrylic paint waste? Stay wet palette? I guess I have more than a couple questions, sorry Hank. Would appreciate any advice, Thanks.

I like this painting. I think it is one of your better ones. I didn't get the wasting away and dissolving part. What I got was delicacy and good decisions.

Thank you William. I think it's greatly improved too. Glad I tried again instead of throwing it away.
