I tried to force myself looser by only using a big mop for these little sketches. Not sure it worked as well as I wanted. I’m still controlling it too much and trying to make a picture.
The first painting made me think of Burt Silverman’s book “Breaking The Rules of Watercolor.” This treatment/method/look is similar to many of the examples in the book. Mops are some of the brushes he uses. Enjoy seeing your journey with watercolor.
Thanks William. He’s one of my favorite watercolor painters. I have the book and I’m trying to follow along but I’m too much in awe. I don’t know how he manages to lift paint off and get it nearly back to white on uncoated bristol. I bought some of the paper he suggests but I can’t lift on it at all.
I popped in to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It’s fun seeing your watercolor experiments!
Thanks Meredith. Merry Christmas to you and yours too!
