Yesterday I thought about working on that painting from the previous post (the New Year’s Day painting) in my studio, but I didn’t see any possibility for redemption. So today I painted over it at a different location. This is one of my favorite spots to paint.
acrylic, 10×20″

With the limited palette I was using today I couldn’t really get enough “sunshine” on the side of that brick building. Alizarin crimson + yellow ochre doesn’t make a very vibrant orange.
The orange you did get is very rich and warm.. I think that trumps vibrant, at least in this painting. Too bad about the other one. You should have sawed it in half and kept it! But it is a new year. Out with the old and in with the new I guess. This painting works well in the long format.
Thanks Jeff. You’re probably right. With all the other colors greyed a bright orange would look out of place.
