Myopia

This morning I painted this version with my glasses on.

Both acrylic on paper, 12×9″

And this afternoon I tried something I’ve wanted to try for a while. I painted the same setup again except without my glasses. Without my glasses I’m blind as a bat so I could hardly even see my palette. The painting was all a blur and obviously the setup 8′ across the room was one big blur. I didn’t put my glasses on again until I was done.

In reality these are much closer in color. I was surprised to see them side-by-side. I used the same palette but I wouldn’t have guessed that my mixtures would end up so similar.

Interesting experiment Hank.. I can’t say I like one better than the other but the second one is definitely nice. I would like to see you duplicate it outside..

    • Thanks Jeff. I’d like to try it outside. I think I have a location or two in mind that may work, but I haven’t been getting out as consistently as I’d like. Definitely will try it sometime though.
