This is a larger studio version of a recent plein air painting.

In the closeups you can see how I’m trying to serve two masters. From a distance the painting comes together, but it isn’t nearly as tight as I might have painted it when I was younger. And from an arm’s reach away it gets rough and more broken up.
I think it’s done. I may add a couple of refinements, but I need a break from working on it and some time to just look at it. Here’s a lousy photo taken with my iPod of the studio version (20×40″) next to the plein air study (10×20″).
