Continuing

Here are a couple more cloud sketches from the other night from my sketchbook.

And the one below is from this morning. It’s another attempt at watercolor on toned paper. I lose the luminosity of the transparent paint and needing to add white to lighten values above the tone of the paper turns the surface into more of a gouache painting. I feel like I have much more control than with transparent paint, but a large part of why I’m using watercolors is to be forced out of control. I’ll keep trying it though. Maybe I should push it in the other direction like my recent self portrait and when I use the toned paper I’ll really try to control it.
